Review
WordPress

Hello 2019!

New year marks a new beginning. New people to meet, new adventures to enjoy and new memories to create.

Today I am going to review a WordPress theme of my choice: Divi.

Even with Gutenberg on the horizon, the default WordPress editor leaves a lot to be desired for many of us.

It’s clunky. It’s limited. It’s utter rubbish.

Try to create any semi-decent landing page with it and you’ll be throwing your hands in up in the air in frustration.

As a freelance web designer who uses Divi theme extensively, trust me when I say “Divi Theme by Elegant Themes is the most powerful, robust and intuitive WordPress theme to date”.

Apart from being a theme, Elegant Theme also provides a standalone plugin : The Divi Builder; which makes it one of the most advanced WordPress front-end editor and visual page builder. The latest version of Divi (Divi 3.0) is blazing fast & has tremendously improved better user interface from the previous build.

Features

Be it content modules or page customisation, Divi provides extensive features that loads fast and do  real-time design changes. Moreover, the A/B Split Testing feature is something none of the page builders have yet.

Pricing

For only $89 you get 69 other themes alongside Divi and all cool plugins. If you ask me, it is absolutely affordable for those who’d like to get their feet wet with web design. They also provide a Lifetime Plan that ultimately saves you from annual recurring payment unlike other page builders.

Support

Elegant Theme has an excellent live chat support for pre-sales. Once you purchased Divi, you will join thousands of highly active Divi enthusiast within the community. Apart from that, there are many Facebook Groups around Divi users you can join, so you’re not alone.

554,210 Customers Are Already Building Amazing Websites With Divi

The moment I purchased the Lifetime Plan of Elegant Themes, I immediately knew that our Divi is going to be my life changer, hands down.

Two years later today, I developed about 150+ client sites with Divi, one of Elegant Theme’s most powerful and user-friendly page builder.

Divi page builder is intuitive, and most importantly, FAST! Adding sections, Call-To Action buttons, or text modules works like a breeze. All that happen in a few clicks with their instant drag-and-drop feature.

You might came across other blogs writing about “Divi Theme Review”. To my suprise, most of the sites were just plain superficial reviews and in most cases, they just want to ‘sell’ you the product. Some also did an outdated review of the theme which does not applies at the current context especially with their latest updates.

That’s why I decided to write this up-to-date (as of January 1st, 2019) review on Divi Theme that showcases the true potential of Divi 3.0 (the latest version) which has shown the age of WordPress page builders a new perspective.

P.S. This site that you’re on is build with Divi.

The aim of sharing this review is to help you decide and see if Divi is the right theme for you. This will be an unbiased review, so I will talk about some downside of the theme (something you hardly find in other reviews)

If you want to create a custom WordPress website without needing to know how-to-code, Divi is one of the options you’ve come across in a list of drag-and-drop page builders (in fact – that is probably why you are reading this Divi Theme review!).

One thing for sure is, Divi lets you build your WordPress website with simple drag and drag and real-time previews. The ease of use, plus a huge third-party support eco-system and plenty of unique features, are things that make the theme so popular.

In this Divi Theme review, I will then give you a hands-on look at how Divi can help you build a beautiful WordPress site.

Divi Theme Review 2019: In-depth Review of DIVI 3.0

The Divi Theme is a multipurpose WordPress theme, which means you can use it to create pretty much create any type of website. Watch this mini-clip of what you can achieve with Divi 3.0.

Flexible and customizable. With Divi, you can easily create:

  • Landing Pages / Sales Pages
  • Corporate Websites (Small Businesses or Client Websites)
  • Blogs / Niche Sites
  • Portfolio Sites

If you’re planning to build an eCommerce store, Divi supports WooCommerce. You can easily design your own custom product listing on your site.

Divi also integrates with Etsy if you want to create an Etsy-based shop to sell Etsy items on your WordPress blog.

That is not all, there are more cool features than you can even imagine. Allow me to make a clear definition of what Divi is all about.

What is Divi Theme?

Divi is a powerful, multipurpose magazine-styled WordPress theme by Elegant Themes. Divi comes bundled with the Divi builder; the drag-and-drop page builder plugin to customize your site the way you want it to be.

It enables you to create beautifully designed Divi blog layouts, high converting landing pages, new brandable personal portfolio sites or client sites in minutes.

Divi theme is one of the most powerful, yet easy-to-blend with your own WordPress website.

Divi Theme Examples: a list of websites build with divi

Elegant Themes website claims that Divi powers over 554,210 WordPress websites and this shows how a good theme with powerful features can help you build such a large community of happy users.

If you’re looking for Divi theme examples or sites build with Divi, here are some websites that are build with Divi theme. I am sure they will give your creative brains a knack for what you can do with Divi theme and page templates.

These are just a few Divi sites you can find out there. You can view the latest submitted Divi sites here.

hands-on experience with divi

So I’ve given you some general thoughts on the Divi Theme, let’s jump right in and see how things actually work.

I’ll give you a quick tour of the Divi Theme in the order that you’re likely to build your website. I’ll first show you how to style the base theme. Then, I will go through the standard functionalities of the Divi Builder.

As I mentioned earlier, you will see two types of downloads when you purchased the Elegant Theme package:

  • Divi Theme zip file
  • Divi Page Builder zip file

Divi Theme zip file
Download this if you want to use Divi as your main core theme for your WordPress site.

Divi Page Builder zip file
Download this if you want to integrate Divi with other themes previously installed on your WordPress site.

There is no need for you to set up both at the same time. Either way, you will still get the same function for what Divi entails as a robust page builder.

Using the WordPress Customizer to Style Divi Theme

Divi uses the native WordPress Customizer to make style changes.

This approach makes Divi Theme more user-friendly compared to other themes that rely more on custom theme options panels on the backend. Customizer allows you to preview all of your changes in instantly.

Here’s what a freshly activated copy of Divi looks like on a brand new WordPress install:

You can start customizing the header of the theme in the ‘Header & Navigation’ section. Choose your desired header style:

default header

centered header

inline-centered header

There are 2 more header styles that you can try out. They are the ‘Slide In’ & ‘Full Screen’ mode. Those are equally good, depending on what type of site you are building.

Another example of what you can do to the header menu is changing its colors. Go to the ‘Primary Header’ section and make changes to the background colors, text colors, and active link color.

I guess you get the idea! Making basic theme changes are easy and seamless with Divi and the WordPress Customizer.

Apart from changing up your header, the WordPress Customizer also lets you:

  • Change the basic layout of your site
  • Selecting a new color scheme
  • Change typography (fonts and colors)
  • Styling the buttons
  • Customizing your footer and widgets
  • Tweak changes for mobile and tablet screen for responsive design (a big plus feature that not many themes offer)

Using the Theme Options to customize the Divi Theme

While you can customize the front-end elements via the WordPress Customizer, Divi also includes a custom theme options panel with even more settings and options.

In my opinion as a developer, some of these options that deal with front-end appearances could’ve also been included in the WordPress Customizer.

Still, that’s not a huge deal because many of the settings here aren’t visual.

Across its many tabs, Theme Options allows you to configure things like:

  • Sidebar layouts
  • Which post metadata to display
  • Smooth scrolling
  • Fixed navigation
  • Built-in advertising spots
  • Many more!

Using the Divi Builder to create custom layouts

Once you configure your base theme with the WordPress Customizer and Theme Options, you can start building the rest of your website using the Divi Builder.

Essentially, you’ll use the Divi Builder to create all of the content that fits within the ‘header – footer – sidebar’ framework that you choose.

You can launch the Divi Builder by clicking the big purple Use The Divi Builder button inside any post or page.

After which, you can choose to build your page’s design via Divi’s back-end or front-end builder:

  • Back-end  you build your design using abstract blocks that represent elements (pictured below)
  • Front-end – you build your design in the exact same view as your end users will see your design

In the latest Divi update, you can build your front-end design in the back-end! It’s called the ‘The Latest Divi Builder Experience’:

In the latest Divi update, you can build your front-end design in the back-end! It’s called the ‘The Latest Divi Builder Experience’. Here’s what I’m talking about:

backend building block editor

back-end | front-end editor

visual front-end editor

Whether you use any of the above methods, it is nice that Divi gives you various options to choose. Many page builders only offer one or the other. This is something unique that separates Divi from others.

The key feature of Divi is its drag and drop builder. Building layouts are easy and fast, making it ideal to create mockups and wireframes, prototyping a design, and creating the website itself. Whether you build from the frontend or backend, the Divi builder is intuitive. It’s very straight-forward to learn and can be used by non-developers to create beautiful websites. As for developers like myself, we can customize it with code (CSS styling).

Want to test drive Divi yourself? Click on the button below to try it out.

modules

Tons of modules are included to add features such as

  • Google Maps,
  • Contact forms,
  • Blurbs,
  • Countdown timers,
  • Sliders,
  • Toggle,
  • Portfolio,
  • Gallery,
  • Pricing tables,
  • Call to action,
  • Buttons,
  • Person,
  • Shop,
  • Social follow,
  • Tabs, and lots more.

The modules can be customized with standard settings or enhanced with CSS.

layouts

What’s cool about Divi is, you will never need to start your site from scratch. Divi includes dozens of premade layouts to help you get started. These layouts include blogs, shops, homepages, landing pages, splash page, about pages, maintenance, coming soon, project, portfolio, contact, case studies, creative agency, product features, and more. You can also craft your own layouts or upload layouts that others designers have created. Customization wise, the sky is the limit!

a/b split test

Perform a/b tests to improve your site’s conversions. See stats on each test to help you choose the best design (colors, text size, font-weight, etc). This is great for calls to action, sign up forms, or anything you want users to click on. I must say, this is my favourite Divi feature! If you are developing a result-driven website, you will thank Divi for this.

As you can see above, the ‘Call To Action 1’ & ‘Call To Action 2’ are the same buttons. We can view the stats of the split to see which variation is performing the best out of the 2.

divi theme search engine optimization

Is the Divi Theme SEO friendly? Absolutely! Divi is 100% SEO friendly. In the theme options, it includes all important SEO features a WordPress site should have. A few features that make Divi SEO friendly are the presence of schema markup, better site structure, canonical URL feature, and features to add meta titles and descriptions etc.

In fact, you wouldn’t even need Yoast SEO plugin to add breadcrumbs. In Divi Yoast breadcrumbs can be overridden with the Divi breadcrumbs module which doesn’t need Yoast to pull the breadcrumbs data. With Divi, you can have your own breadcrumbs and customize the look of it. (You can, of course, choose to use Yoast SEO default settings if you are already using previously).

Here is a screenshot of how the SEO section in the Divi Theme Options look like:

Elegant Themes have schema markups that let search engines like Google understand what your business/blog is about and can potentially rank better. One thing is for sure, Divi uses shortcodes to display your design elements and to style your writing. As search engines are getting smarter, shortcodes do not affect rankings in any way.

divi theme role editor

Another essential Divi feature that you’re unlikely to find in other themes is the Divi Role Editor. Why is this feature important? Having control over which user gets access to what feature is very essential because you wouldn’t like your guest contributors to mess up with your posts or someone change something you are already running split testing campaigns. This is great for protecting your sharp design from anyone with access to the backend.

vast third-party ecosystem

By now, you should agree that Divi is an amazing WordPress theme. As an awesome theme, it can still be expanded through plugins. While any theme can make use of third-party plugins, Divi is special in that there are tons of plugins made specifically for it. There’s a huge third-party ecosystem for support and Divi add-ons. A big plus!

The community within the Divi space is massive. Divi developers always find ways to enhance the core theme features. There are many Divi-related sites out there that provide tutorials and support to the community. Once you join, you will never turn back!

Let me list a few of the popular ones so you can check them out:

price: how much does the divi theme cost?

Divi is a product of Elegant Themes. So when you make the purchase, not only you get Divi, you will get 86 other pre-built themes and 6 plugins. Elegant Theme priced their membership at $89 annually. There is a lifetime membership plan which cost $249. You pay it once, it gives you lifetime access to the theme, plugins, support, and all future updates. If you are tight on budget, you can start with the annual plan first. I personally purchased the lifetime plan because I know this investment will be my bread and butter of my business.

I might be biased, but it’s definitely bang-for-the-buck, you hardly find anything better than Divi and the Elegant Themes membership.

Just so you know I truly believe Divi is the solution of all your web design problems. The value of you getting from this purchase is thousand times the price. So buy with confidence. If you sign up from my link, I will receive a small commission for recommending this theme. Click on the button below to get to their landing page.

final thoughts on divi 3.0

Okay, let us wrap this review up.

Here’s my thought on Divi:

Divi is an undeniably powerful multipurpose theme in the WordPress market. It can easily create ANY kind of website without you needing to know how to code. If you know basic HTML and CSS, that is a bonus. Divi is the best framework to start with if you are a beginner. Give it a few weeks, you can master its features and build awesome websites and landing pages in no time.

If you plan to start freelancing with web design, Divi is your answer. Hands down. Because it can create anything from a simple website to a complex type of site, you name it. So in conclusion, I highly recommend Divi for those who are new to web design, freelancers, seasoned developers or even those who are using other WordPress page builders and currently ‘struggling’.

Thank you for your time and I really appreciate you reading up to this point. I truly hope you enjoyed my Divi Theme review. If you have any questions or inquiries, feel free to comment below and chat!

2019 is around the corner! Time fly fast when you’re busy. Back to back client work and consistent self development towards myself and the business. 2018 has been a fruitful year for me and Roquepress. Attending countless appointments, random client meet ups and establish relationships are some of the few things that I do to keep Roquepress running.

The Art of Freelancing

Freelancing IS a relationship business. Naturally, I am a people person. So I love engaging conversation with interested prospects. Ultimately I’m there to solve their business needs. To date, I am grateful to have stabilise my clientele base. There’s enough cashflow to save up for my wedding next year (exactly one year from today). Yay! Cannot get too excited. Because on the flipside, you are trading time for money.

Back when I first started in 2013, I build websites for fun. Because it is something I love doing. I even build websites for friends and families at no cost! In return I get to improve my skills and get better day by day. It took me 3 years of procrastination to finally build a brand for myself. Thus, in 2016, Roquepress was formed.

To be clear, I am a self-taught developer. I took diploma in IT and degree in business during my tertiary days. Meaning to say, I have no computer science background. The awesome thing about web design and development is.. you can learn yourself. Really. As long as you focus and commit to it, you will get there.

Most companies don’t look at your certs – they prefer to see your work. If you’re good, your work speaks for itself. Last but not least – attitude. As cliche as it sounds, I cultivated that ‘never-say-die’ attitude in all my work. Its not a surprise that I have achieved my goal substantially, as a freelancer. It went beyond my expectations and I thank God for that.

“Do what you love to do, but don’t do it to the point where you don’t love it anymore.”

WordPress
In a technology driven age, it has become essential for local businesses to create a presence online. A website allows you to bolster your current advertising campaigns, take control of your brand image online and build long term relationships with your clients.
Wordpress is a universal website platform that provides the scalability required when growing your business.

This post will take you through the website design process and explain the benefits of using WordPress as a website platform.

USER BEHAVIOUR
For example, there one task that requires her to do up a simple landing page with a simple email sign up form. I told her to follow exactly the same as the mockup that I have prepared for her. All she needs to do is to strictly follow the mockup and refer to the UI Style guide (given to her prior to the project). But she didn’t!

QUALITY & CREDIBILITY

Website users appreciate quality and credibility in a website. You can have the most beautifully designed website in the world, but if your content is lacking in quality and credibility, your design means nothing.

ANALYSING A WEBPAGE

Users scan web-pages. They don’t read every single bit of content and search for anchors to guide them through the content of your website page.

INSTANT GRATIFICATION

Your website needs to grab your user’s attention in the first few seconds or risk an exit.

INTUITION

Users tend to follow their intuition which makes it very important that your website structure follows an intuitive flow.

PRINCIPLES OF EFFECTIVE WEB DESIGN

Applying these principles during your web design process will put you in good stead with your users.

GOAL

Each page on your website needs to cater to a specific goal of your user. Whether your user is looking for your contact details or more information on a product or service, your website needs to cater to that in the most effective way.

COMMUNICATION

Users tend to consume information very quickly on the internet. It’s therefore important that you communicate information very clearly on your website. It needs to be easy to read and digest. You can accomplish this by formatting your text with headers, bullet points etc.

MEDIA

Text isn’t the only form of communicating with your users. Adding rich media to your website like images, videos and infographics can communicate a point across more effectively than any piece of text. It can also be very effective in positioning your brand to your target audience.

user journey

This refers to the actions the user takes when moving around in your website. There is a general “3 click rule” which states that a user shouldn’t take more than 3 clicks to get to their goal/destination. Make sure that the website has a logical page structure which has intuitive user flow.

USER ATTENTION TRACKING

Studies have shown that users scan computers in a “F” pattern which places their attention in the top left hand side of the screen. Good designers will build a website using this flow instead of forcing a different type of flow and prioritize the most important information left to right and top to bottom.

LOAD TIME

Websites that take a long time to load are universally hated by most users. Ensuring that website images are optimized to load faster and making sure the code is optimised will ensure that your website loads quicker.

MOBILE FRIENDLY

Make sure that your website is optimized to be viewed across all devices. You will be missing out on a big chunk of traffic if your website is only optimized for desktop usage.

WORDPRESS FEATURES

With WordPress, you can create powerful, polished sites. It’s the most popular website publishing platform and currently powers more than 30% of the web.

WordPress is constantly improving with updates rolling out regularly to enhance the user experience. With their user-friendly content management system, you don’t need to be a programmer, or know anything about html to update your website.

50, 000 new WordPress websites get published every day, from small business websites, to big media organizations like CNN. The scalability ensures that your website can grow with your business.

Here’s a list of reasons we would recommend using WordPress.

100% CUSTOMIZABLE

Your website is totally customizable in WordPress; from the color to the layout.

USER-FRIENDLY

An intuitive user interface is the result of WordPress’ simple, uncomplicated technology. Adding new pages, blog posts and media can be done without coding and html knowledge.

SEO FRIENDLY

One of Google’s considerations when indexing your website, is your HTML code. Google does not like excessive code. WordPress is already streamlined which creates a good basis for your future SEO efforts.

FULL W3C COMPLIANCE

W3C sets standards for html code to ensure that websites will comply with the latest browsers. WordPress is W3C compliant.

DATA SAFETY

When you build a website on a hosted service, you risk your website data disappearing if the hosted service fails. With WordPress, no one, besides your developers, has access to your content. Your content is also automatically saved, which protects against data loss.

SCALABILITY

You can add hundreds or thousands of pages to your WordPress website without compromising the performance in the least. Your website can grow alongside your business.

WEBSITE SECURITY

If you have the right partner setting up your WordPress installation, they will “harden” the installation which actually provides more security against hackers that your average website.

MULTI-USER FUNCTIONALITY

Within WordPress, administrators can create user accounts and specify the level of access these accounts hold.

UNIVERSAL PLATFORM

Finding a designer to work on your website will never be a problem as most designers know how to work with WordPress. Instead of starting from scratch when you want to do a re-design, a designer can edit the existing website.

MOBILE FRIENDLY

With responsive themes, your website will identify the device your site visitors are using, and automatically adjust the view appropriately.

BLOG READY

Wordpress has a built in blog functionality, ready for you to design and activate.

DESIGN PROCESS

1

Planning

Website Goals – During the beginning phase of the process, it’s important to determine the goals of the website; for example, lead capturing, sales or to provide information. These goals will dictate the design of the website as it strives to meet this goal.

Content Structure – Mapping out the content structure and getting approval on that during the planning phase is crucial. This will save enormous amounts of time later on.

Example:

2

Design

Quality Branding Materials – Your website needs to have consistent branding in order for the user journey off-line to compliment the user journey online. An example would be the logos on your letterhead which should match the logos on your website.

Mockups – The mockups are created, keeping the website goals in mind. It’s important to have enough variety in the mockups to view how different styles could possibly impact the website look and feel.

Review & Approve – The website look and feel needs to be considered and approved by all stakeholders before the development can start.

3

Development

Website Template Framework – The main template framework for the website is developed before the individual page templates are developed. It’s the foundation for the various page templates.

Page Templates – The mockups are created, keeping the website goals in mind. It’s important to have enough variety in the mockups to view how different styles could possibly impact the website look and feel.

Add Special Features – Special features are developed when the need arises for a specific function; for example adding social network buttons where users can “like” your blog posts.

Upload Content – After the content has been written and approved, it needs to be uploaded along with any other media to the specific pages of the website. Other media include videos, images, pdf documents or slides.

Quality Assurance – Once the website has been fully developed, it needs to go through Quality Assurance by testing all links, functionality etc. This process can be time consuming, but is necessary in order to avoid any errors when pushing live.

4

Launch

Transfer to Live – The main template framework for the website is developed before the individual page templates are developed. It’s the foundation for the various page templates.

Test – The mockups are created, keeping the website goals in mind. It’s important to have enough variety in the mockups to view how different styles could possibly impact the website look and feel.

5

Site Maintenance

Security Updates – In order to ensure that your website is safe and secure, a monthly update of WordPress and plugins is recommended.

Website Backup – It’s devastating when you lose your website data. Making a backup at least once a month will ensure that you never lose website data ever again.

Content Updates – Keep your content fresh by updating it at least once a month with new blog posts. When products or services get added to your business, it’s important to transfer that information to your website, where your users have easy access.

CONCLUSION

Whether you are building your first website, or re-designing your website, this quote applies to you:

”If you don’t have time to do it right, when will you have the time to do it over?” – John Wooden

Make sure that you apply best practices and always keep your users top of mind. What will they like? What is their journey?

Your website is an extension of your business and needs to receive the same attention as your physical premises does. Do a good job with your website the first time around.

WordPress
Web Development was once considered a gigantic task involving hardcore programming skills. Websites were developed using text editors as simple as note pads. However, with advancements in web development technologies, people with little or absolutely no programming experience also began to find their feet in this arena.
This happened owing to the development of content management systems (CMS) such as WordPress, Joomla, Drupal and similar web development platforms. These content management systems allow layman users to develop professional looking websites. Now, with the emerging of Weebly, Wix and Squarespace, it adds further headache to which platform should we use for our website. Choosing a CMS depends on various factors. However, we will focus on why WordPress CMS is our preferred choice for developing websites.

Open-Sourced Technologies

WordPress is an open-source CMS. You do not need to spend a dime to start using WordPress. It is easily available at WordPress.org. WordPress is based on PHP which is an open sourced server-side programming language. WordPress uses MySQL database for data persistence and storing content such as posts, comments and images etc. MySQL is also open source and freely available.

“We don’t just sell websites, we create websites that SELL.”

Easy to Install and Manage

Installing WordPress is an extremely simple task and requires few clicks of the mouse. Most of the domain hosting companies such as SiteGround, provide one-click installation services for WordPress. Usability of WordPress is not limited to installation; once installed, it is also very easy to manage via WordPress dashboard. For instance, creating menus, pages, posts, adding images and setting titles is a matter of few clicks and entails no coding skills.

Styling Using Themes

There are literally thousands of WordPress themes freely available. These themes can be used to define an overall style for your website. Themes can be tweaked to achieve desired styling functionalities. There are premium themes out there for a small cost, so no two websites will ever look the same. Themes are a great way for early developers to learn how websites are built and it takes out the technical challenge, so you can work on the content and look of the website, without have to worry. For the advanced designer, you are able to use the editor to tweak the styling via CSS, or even create your own.

Enhanced Functionality via Plugins

WordPress websites can be enhanced easily via several “plugins”. WordPress themes, by default, come with basic functionalities. However, additional functionalities can be added via plugins. For instance, if you want to add a login widget to your website, you can use the login plugins. Similarly, in order to add a contact form on your website, a contact form plugin can be used, not just to add the form to your page, but also to store and send on any queries that come through your website. There are many freely available plugins that you can use to enhance the functionality of your WordPress website.

“WordPress has one of the largest software developer commnuties.”

Great Community Support

The immense developer support allows users to solve their WordPress issues immediately. Also, owing to the large developer community, rapid updates and patches are developed which solve issues that arise in any theme or plugin etc. Additionally, if you ever come across any problems, then you can always post in the support forum and be sure to get a quick response to your problem:

SEO (Search Engine Optimization) Friendly

WordPress websites are extremely SEO friendly. Companies spend thousands of dollars to rank their websites high on Google page ranks. The good thing about WordPress is that Google, for some reason rates WordPress websites higher owing to its built in SEO features. That is a total advantage! Alternatively you can also try out cool SEO plugins out there to help guide you through the process of SEO and help your website rank better with the search engines.

Conclusion

Though there are many CMSs currently available in the market, WordPress is the best place to start (in my opinion), it is extremely easy to learn, flexible to twak, open-sourced and SEO friendly. Also, with a large developer community, you are likely to get instant help and support for any issue that arises during your website development endeavours.

WordPress

There are quite a lot of people out there who think WordPress is just a blogging platform. This is far from the truth! WordPress can build the simplest blog all the way up to a professional website – there really are no limits! WordPress is a powerful tool, which now accounts for 28.9% of the entire internet (as of date). That is a more than a quarter! Lets breakdown all the truth about WordPress.

WordPress is becoming a great starter point for new web designers and developers, since it’s a good starter point to get your website online, and it’s fairly simple to pick up. The first time I started with WordPress was back in 2009. As technology extends its growth, we learn new skills and always aspire to advance our expertise.

Many professional developers, like us, are turning to WordPress to build sites for our clients as it’s a powerful tool – it cuts development time, and it provides a great content management system (CMS) so that our clients can easily add content themselves.

“There are about 19,500,000 websites on the entire web uses WordPress.”

A Good Platform for Bloggers

Bloggers are finding it a great platform to work with, as they can add content quickly and easily without having to have a lot of technical knowledge.

In the series of Roquepress’ blog post, we will provide you with all the basic fundamentals needed to help you on the road to building your website or blog with WordPress. It doesn’t matter if you’re new to the whole concept of web development or blogging, we will guide you through each step with screenshots and detailed text to help you progress through. If you are a professional developer, there might be things that will be new to you, or things that can help boost your knowledge of WordPress and how it works. You can then bring this knowledge gem to your own projects.

What will I need?

You are going to need two things:

  •  A domain name: (For example: www.helloworld.com).
  • Web Hosting: This is space online that you use to host your website. You pay a monthly or annual fee to rent space online. For us, we highly recommend SiteGround. We will go more in depth to understand more about web hosting and its packages.

Learn the skills

The first step is to learn how WordPress works. I will try my best to provide you with all the fundamentals needed to help you on the road to building your website or blog with WordPress.

Plan your website/blog

This is probably the most crucial step in any website project. You will need to set yourself deadlines, brainstorm ideas, set up a page structure, and work out what domain name and web hosting you are going to use.
“Let us take you into a deeper experience, make a moment a lasting conveyable memory. Let us help build your tribe.”

Design your website/blog

Get a pen and paper, use a notepad or a graphic design package like Photoshop to sketch out the design of each of your website pages. In web development term, we call this – sketching your site wireframe. Ultimately you need to get the visuals out before implementing the content of the site.

Implement your website using WordPress

Take your design and start developing your pages in WordPress. Make sure you start with the website appearance and functionality before adding content or working on SEO (Search Engine Optimization)

Maintain your website/blog

It’s important to maintain your website by adding new content, making sure your content is posted on social media, and updating WordPress plugins. These is always going to be ways to improve your website functionality and exploring new ways for your readers to engage in your content.
